Ball pythons are masters at hiding illness. By the time obvious symptoms appear, the infection is often advanced. Check your snake daily and watch for these early warning signs:

🦠 What causes respiratory infections

RIs are almost always caused by husbandry issues that weaken the snake's immune system, allowing opportunistic bacteria to infect the lungs:

• Too cold: warm side below 80°F — snakes can't metabolize properly, immune system slumps
• Too dry: humidity below 50% — respiratory tract dries out, mucus can't trap bacteria

2. Increase humidity to 60-70% — mist, use a larger water bowl, add damp moss to a hide
